Stanford vs. Washington Betting Preview September 30, 2016

Stanford Cardinal (3-0) vs. Washington Huskies (4-0)
Friday, September 30, 2016 – 9:00 PM ET
Husky Stadium, Seattle, Washington
LINE: WAS -3 ; Total: 44

The No. 6 Stanford Cardinal will be looking to defeat the No. 9 Washington Huskies for the eighth time in the past nine meetings in Friday night’s Pac-12 showdown between two undefeated teams. Early money is pouring in on Stanford but the sharps seem to disagree with the Huskies -3 now being juiced up. The line is however holding steady at the opener of -3 as for now.

The Cardinals are averaging only 25 points per game through their first three games, ranking them 96th overall. It’s however worth noting that they’ve covered the spread each game in wins against KSU, USC and UCLA. The Huskies meanwhile faced easy opponents in their first three games of the season and are as a result of the scheduling averaging 45.8 points per game, placing them 10th in the Nation. They did not fare quite as well at Arizona Wildcats last week though, as they had to grind out a 35-28 overtime victory as a 16-point favorite. They’ve failed to cover the spread in back-to-back games. Defensively there’s not much separating the teams with Washington giving up 320.8 yards per game and Stanford 337.7 ypg.

The Stanford Cardinals won last year’s meeting 31-14 at Stanford Stadium and the home team is 4-1 ATS in their last five head-to-head meetings. Both teams are sporting new QBs since last season’s clash though with senior Ryan Burns under center for Stanford instead of Kevin Hogan (now at Cleveland Browns) and Jake Browning replacing K.J. Carta-Samuels as Washington’s starter.

The player to keep an eye on is Stanford’s junior running back Christian McCaffrey who rushed for 2,019 yards and finished second in the Heisman Trophy balloting last season. McCaffrey was solid last week, rushing for 138 yards off 26 carries in Stanford’s 22-13 win at UCLA and he’s rushed for 436 yards and leads the Cardinal in receiving (12 catches for 119 yards) this season.
