Eight of the nine underdogs on the NBA card of Monday January 23, 2017 won outright. The Miami Heat pulled off the biggest upset of the day winning outright after closing as an 11.5-point underdog to the Warriors.
The Pelicans stood for the second biggest upset as they defeated the Cavaliers 124-122 as a 10-point dog, despite playing without All-Star forward Anthony Davis. I had locked in the Cavs at -6.5-point as documented in my Cavs vs. Pelicans Free Pick, and it was very disappointing to see the pick come up short despite beating the closing line by a large margin.
Before you start going dog-hunting on Tuesday’s card, keep in mind that the ATS favorites have been the money makers in the NBA so far this season. The favorites are 342-305-14 ATS (52.9%) entering Tuesday and 461-200 (69.7%) straight up.
That means that assuming an average line of -110 on all bets, betting the favorite against the spread in each matchup this season would have beaten the vig and been auto-money in the bank!
The favorites did well during the 2015/2016 season as well going 658-595-24 (52.5%) against the spread.
Tuesday’s card features six close matchups, with no team favored by more than three points as of the publication of this article. Do you dare to rely on the dogs again, or will the favorites run the table tonight?
