The New York Yankees opened the season with a dominant 6-1 victory here at Toronto on Thursday. Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run homer in his first at-bat as a Yankee and went 3-for-5 with two homers on the day to improve to five homers in four career games at Rogers Centre.
Toronto recorded just two hits in the defeat, and odds are that the Blue Jays will struggle to get on the board again when facing Masahiro Tanaka on the mound Friday night. Tanaka is 9-4 with a 2.95 ERA in 15 career starts against Toronto, allowing one earned run or no earned runs in seven of those starts. Yankees are 5-1 in Tanaka’s last six starts vs. Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays turn to Aaron Sanchez who was sharp during spring training, but he won only once last year as recurring blister issues limited him to only eight starts. I don’t see Sanchez getting enough run support in this contest.
