Neither the Kansas City Royals nor the Baltimore Orioles have much to play for at this stage of the season, but that has not stopped them from flexing their muscles at the plate in this series. They have combined for 28 runs while splitting the first two games, and I expect another high-scoring affair in the series finale on Sunday.
Baltimore righty Aaron Brooks (4-7, 5.79 ERA) is coming off six scoreless innings of two-hit ball at Washington, but he’s still 2-4 with an ugly 6.44 ERA in 11 outings (seven starts) on the road this season. As for KC lefty Danny Duffy, he will make his first start since going on the IL since Aug. 6. Duffy was smacked around for nine runs in 4 2/3 innings at Minnesota last time out and note that over is 12-5 in Duffy’s last 17 home starts. Additionally, Baltimore’s relievers are dead last in the majors with a 5.92 ERA, and KC’s is not much better (27th) with a 5.06 ERA.
