The Philadelphia Phillies have not won a series since sweeping the Miami Marlins in early August, but they’re coming off an 8-3 triumph over Toronto Sunday afternoon and I think they’ll carry the momentum over to this matchup with the Washington Nationals.
Note that the Nats are just 32-35 on the road while the Phillies are 41-22 at home on the season and 15-5 in their last 20 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
Washington right-hander Stephen Strasburg (6-7, 4.23 ERA) was knocked around for five runs on seven hits in four innings against Philadelphia last week. It was his first start of the month after coming off the DL due to a neck issue and Strasburg has posted an 8.83 ERA in his last four starts.
Philly right-hander Zach Eflin (9-4, 3.93 ERA) allowed five runs (four earned) and 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings at Washington last week but he’s 6-1 behind a 3.51 ERA in eight starts home at Citizens Bank Park on the season. Phillies are 5-1 in Eflin’s last 6 home starts.
Philly have won five of the last six when hosting the Nats.
Free pick on Philadelphia Phillies.
