The San Francisco Giants have scored plenty of runs during a 19-5 run that has put them in postseason contention despite a slow start to the year. They’ll visit the Philadelphia Phillies for the opener of a three-game series Monday night, and I expect to see plenty of fireworks from both sides as the Phillies have been swinging hot bats lately as well.
The Giants hand the ball to Tyler Beede (3-4, 4.85 ERA) who served up career worsts of three homers while allowing four runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings of a loss to the Cubs last time out. Beede has a 5.54 ERA in eight outings (seven starts) on the road this season.
The Phillies counter with left-hander Drew Smyly (1-5, 7.69 ERA). He impressed with six innings of one-run ball in his first start with the team after coming over from Texas, but note his earned run average for the season … The Giants have hit lefties well lately, and this could turn ugly fast for Smyly.
Over is 6-1 in Giants last 7 road games vs. a left-handed starter. Over is 9-2-1 in Giants last 12 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
