The Tigers have taken the first two games in this series, riding a pair of terrific pitching performances. I expect a different story to unfold on Wednesday at the Trop as Detroit sends Jack Flaherty to the mound against Shawn Armstrong of the Rays (in what amounts to a bullpen game for Tampa Bay). Flaherty has pitched better than expected so far this season, logging a 3.69 FIP and 1.10 WHIP through four starts. He'll face a difficult challenge on Wednesday, however, as the Rays current hitters have had his number in limited looks, going a combined 7-for-20 at the dish with only five strikeouts and three walks. Of the seven Rays that have seen Flaherty, six have collected at least a hit despite only Amed Rosario logging more than three at-bats. Armstrong won't be asked to do too much for the Rays in this one. He does check in sporting a 1.89 FIP and 1.18 WHIP in 11 innings of work this season. The Rays bullpen hasn't been great as a whole this season but did enter last night's action having logged a sparkling 1.03 ERA and 0.80 WHIP over the last seven games. Take Tampa Bay.
